Dear Stonehill Community,

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all new and returning families. The students have had a great time over the past couple of days, talking about their summer adventures, catching up with old friends and making lots of new ones. This year, we welcome 20 new teachers and 150 new students to Stonehill. Our enrolment, at almost 500, is the highest on record. We continue to be the school of choice for internationally-minded families seeking a quality IB education in Bangalore. We remain truly international – with staff and students now representing more than 35 nationalities.

The 2018-19 academic year is an important one in Stonehill’s history. We will be celebrating our 10 Year Anniversary and we also have our 5 Year Evaluation and Accreditation Visit from the Council of International Schools (CIS), the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the International Baccalaureate (IB). The NEASC/CIS/IB Evaluation Teams will be at school during the second week of October observing lessons and conducting interviews with staff, faculty, students, parents and governors. We are confident that the evaluation visit will provide us with the opportunity to celebrate our achievements, as well as provide recommendations that will help us develop a roadmap for our future development.

Over the next few weeks, we have a scheduled a number of events and activities designed to connect the members of our learning community and provide you with important information for the year ahead. We look forward to seeing all primary parents next week at the PYP Back to School Evening on Tuesday 21st August at 6.30 pm. We will be sharing information to help parents support their child’s learning in the Primary School. The Secondary Back to School Morning on Saturday 1st September will also provide parents with an opportunity to meet teachers and find out more about the year ahead. On the afternoon of Saturday 1st September, we have our first social event of the year. All members of the Stonehill community will be invited to the PTA Barbeque to share some food and get to know each other better.

On Saturday 8th September, we will officially open our fantastic new Multi-Purpose Hall. We will also celebrate our Founder’s Day and the 10 Year Anniversary of our School. We hope that you will be able to join us.

In addition to a new Multi-Purpose Sports Hall, we also have a newly designed PYP Play area with a range of imported, natural wood climbing frames. The purpose-built equipment is designed to provide exciting, appealing play opportunities for children whilst facilitating their development in physical strength and social interaction. Our Primary students have already been enjoying this new outdoor space. Over the holiday, we also updated our transport provision with the purchase of six new school buses.

2018-19 will be an exciting year at Stonehill. We all look forward to continuing our journey as an internationally-minded community of spirited learners, dedicated to the development of knowledgeable, caring, confident and responsible global citizens.
