Reflections from EDUtech Asia 2025: Learning through Innovation

By Sarah Anjum, Head of IT

I had the privilege of representing Stonehill International School at EDUtech Asia 2025 in Singapore — Asia’s largest education and EdTech event that brings together thousands of educators, innovators, and technology leaders from across the region.

 "EDUTECH ASIA 2025"

As an educator and leader passionate about purposeful technology integration, it was an honour to be invited as a speaker to share our school’s journey and insights on “Computational Thinking – The Building Blocks of Innovation.”

The Power of Computational Thinking

In my session, we explored how computational thinking (CT) serves as the foundation for creativity, innovation, and problem-solving in today’s digital world.

We often associate CT with coding, but it’s so much more than that, it's a mindset. The four pillars — decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithmic thinking — empower learners to approach challenges logically and creatively, no matter the discipline. Whether it’s analysing data in mathematics, exploring patterns in literature, or solving real-world sustainability issues, CT gives students a mindset that transcends subject boundaries.

I also spoke about how we at Stonehill International School embed computational thinking across programmes, encouraging students to see technology not merely as a tool but as a means to think, create, and innovate with purpose. Students showcase these problem-solving skills through Makeathon, Hackathon, PYP and TOK exhibitions.

Celebrating Innovation and Collaboration

Beyond the sessions, EDUtech Asia was an inspiring space filled with dynamic discussions, hands-on workshops, and an exhibition floor showcasing the latest in educational technology from Google for Education, Kahoot, Padlet, Toddle, Samsung, Lenovo and a lot more. From AI-driven learning tools and robotics to accessibility solutions and immersive VR experiences, the event truly reflected how innovation is transforming classrooms around the world.

It was exciting to connect with educators, school leaders, and EdTech partners who share a vision for reimagining learning, not just through gadgets, but through intentional, ethical, and human-centred technology practices.

Recognised as a Finalist at the EDUtech Asia Awards

One of the highlights of the event was the EDUtech Asia Awards, which celebrated schools and institutions leading meaningful change through technology.

We were thrilled that Stonehill International School was recognised as a finalist for “Best EdTech Deployment”. Though we didn’t take home the award, this recognition itself is a powerful reflection of our collective effort, as an Apple Distinguished School, to create a learning environment where technology amplifies creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Key Takeaways

The conversations throughout the conference reinforced some key ideas that will guide our journey forward:

  • Purpose over platforms: The focus should always be on how technology enhances learning outcomes, not on the number of tools we use.
  • Ethical and responsible use: As AI becomes more integrated into education, schools must ensure that technology remains grounded in ethics, empathy, and human connection.
  • Empowering educators: Innovation thrives when teachers are trusted to experiment, reflect, and design experiences that bring out the best in every learner.
  • Learners as creators: Our goal is to nurture students who are not just digital consumers, but creators, innovators, and problem-solvers ready to make a positive impact.

A Step Forward

EDUtech Asia 2025 was more than a conference; it was a celebration of curiosity, collaboration, and community. The exchange of ideas and the collective passion for improving education reaffirmed why innovation in learning matters.

As we return to our classrooms and planning sessions at our school, this experience will continue to inspire us to explore, adapt, and evolve - ensuring that our students grow as future-ready digital citizens who use technology to think critically, collaborate meaningfully, and lead with purpose.

I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the PYP SAIBSA 2025 Job-Alike Sessions at Treamis School on 29th November. The open sign-up encouraged me to participate, and discovering how IB educators come together to learn and grow made the experience truly meaningful. 11 of us attended the event from the Primary team, Stonehill International School.
