Social Emotional Learning
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is a cornerstone of our school, especially within the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
It helps our students develop empathy, emotional intelligence, and strong interpersonal skills, creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment. By fostering self-awareness, resilience, and effective communication, SEL empowers students to succeed academically and thrive personally. It also nurtures global citizenship, equipping students with the emotional tools to navigate challenges, collaborate with others, and engage with the world thoughtfully and responsibly.
SEL in Primary school
In our Primary Years Programme (PYP), our Personal, Social Education (PSE) program helps students build the knowledge and skills they need to be resilient, develop a strong sense of self, form healthy relationships, and make good decisions for their own health and well-being. Well-being is woven throughout the entire PYP curriculum, with every teacher playing a role in supporting students’ personal and social growth. Our Primary School Counsellor plays a key role in the implementation of our PSE program as they deliver targeted lessons to support students in developing their skills in this area.
The Stonehill Primary PSE curriculum focuses on four key areas:
-
Wellness
-
Growth and Development
-
Managing Self
-
Managing Relationships
SEL in Secondary school
In the Secondary School our Personal and Social Development (PSD) programme supports students in developing essential skills for their well-being and positive social engagement. The program fosters strong relationships based on trust and respect, encouraging students to reflect on their growth and navigate life's challenges with confidence and self-awareness.
Our PSD curriculum focuses on key areas to help students build a healthy, balanced life, including:
-
Self-awareness
-
Self-management
-
Social awareness
-
Emotional health
-
Child protection
-
Sex education
-
Career planning
To further enrich students' learning, we invite external speakers and experts to campus to offer real-world insights and deepen understanding of these important topics. Parents are also encouraged to attend various workshops throughout the year to support their child(ren) at home.
