Volume 3, Issue 1, March 2024

An Interview with Glen Johnson, Head of Boarding

Stonehill boarding has been through many changes. What do you think is different this year?
The 2023-’24 academic year has brought about numerous changes and improvements in our boarding environment. This year, we welcomed a diverse group of new students, both local and international.

Over the last quarter, it's been exciting to witness the rapid progress of both the cafeteria extension and the construction of our fourth boarding house.

These developments are poised to have a positive impact on our enrollment figures, as this will provide dedicated boarding facilities for both Secondary and Diploma Programme (DP) students. Additionally, we have expanded our extracurricular activities and offerings to cater to a wider range of interests.

Students now have access to more programmes allowing them to further explore their passions. Our commitment to fostering a strong sense of community remains unwavering. This year, we have introduced new community-building initiatives, such as an elder care programme and working with the government schools in North Bangalore.

Can you describe your approach to fostering a sense of belonging and unity within the boarding community?
In fostering a sense of belonging and unity within our boarding community, our approach is centred on inclusivity, engagement, and support. We prioritise open communication channels, encouraging students to voice their ideas and concerns.

We also emphasise the importance of extracurricular activities that allow students to explore their interests and talents while building connections with their peers. Moreover, we maintain a strong focus on valuing each individual and nurturing a supportive environment. We aim to create a boarding community where every boarder feels valued, heard, and connected.

How do you think students can explore their passions at Stonehill boarding?
Being in boarding offers our boarders a unique opportunity to delve deeper into their sense of self and explore their passions. The balanced and flexible nature of boarding life at Stonehill allows boarders to explore their interests in a supportive and immersive environment. Boarders have access to a wide array of extracurricular activities and programmes, enabling them to discover and nurture their talents.

Additionally, the self-responsibility that comes with living in a residential setting teaches them valuable life skills and promotes personal growth. The boarding experience empowers them to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their passions, and their potential.

What lies ahead for Stonehill Boarding?

As I envision the future of Stonehill Boarding, my commitment is one of continued growth. We are committed to creating an environment where every boarder thrives academically, emotionally, and socially. Our boarding programme's core values include fostering inclusivity, promoting holistic development, and nurturing a sense of global citizenship. We aim to expand our offerings to provide more diverse and enriching experiences for our students, equipping them with the skills and perspectives needed to excel in an ever-changing world.

Our ultimate goal is to ensure that Stonehill Boarding remains the top boarding school in India, a place where students not only receive an outstanding education but also develop character, resilience, and adaptability needed to succeed in all aspects of life.
