Transition support

Settling into Stonehill is a smooth experience!

At Stonehill, we understand that moving to a new country and joining a new school can be both exciting and overwhelming. That’s why we’ve built a strong support system to help every student feel safe, seen, and at home from day one. Stonehill prides itself on being a warm supportive and safe community.

Our teachers and staff are experienced in supporting international transitions and are sensitive to challenges that come with such transitions. There are Social and Emotional Counsellors available in school, a student buddy system in place, and clear anti-bullying policies to ensure that kindness and inclusion are more than just values—they’re part of everyday life.

Transition is a crucial phase in a student's educational journey as they move from one academic year to the next and in the case of Stonehill as students move from different parts of the world to Bangalore, they transition between varied cultures and diverse environments. As much as we embrace diversity, we also ensure inclusivity at Stonehill.

All students entering a new grade or joining the school participate in a guided orientation program. Homeroom teachers and behavioural counsellors play a key role in offering social and emotional support, helping students adjust to their new learning environment.

Regular check-ins and settling-in reports sent to the parents, telling them how their child has settled into school.

‘Buddy System’, where every new student is assigned a fellow student buddy, who helps them to get around the school, giving them company at lunch and being with them till they settle in.

WE ENSURE THAT EVERY NEW STUDENT FEELS SAFE, CARED FOR AND SETTLED.

Engage with our PTA:

With the added support of our active Parent-Teacher Association, we welcome families from around the world into a caring, connected community that’s always ready to help.

While your child will be engaged in the various activities that Stonehill offers including sports, arts, music, and after-school activities, you, as a Stonehill parent have every opportunity to be engaged in our PTA. The PTA organises several events throughout the year to build a strong sense of belonging among our diverse community of parents! There are many volunteering opportunities within the PTA as well as in school.

TRANSITIONS BECOMEĀ EVEN MORE SIGNIFICANT WHEN STUDENTS SHIFT BETWEEN PROGRAMMES, SUCH AS FROM THE PYP TO THE MYP OR FROM THE MYP TO THE DP.

PYP to MYP (P8 to M1):

To ensure a smooth transition into the MYP, P8 learners participate in a two-day induction within MYP classes. The PYP and MYP teams also meet to discuss each student, sharing valuable insights to help M1 teachers better support them in the next academic year.

Subject and College Guidance:

Academic counselling is provided to M3 and M5 students to support subject selection for M4 and D1, respectively. This is complemented by parallel college counselling, ensuring students make informed choices aligned with their future aspirations.

MYP to DP (M5 to D1):

A structured Jumpstart Programme is conducted during the last two weeks of the M5 academic year. This initiative prepares students with the skills and expectations required to begin the DP confidently.

DP Life Skills and University Readiness:

In the Diploma Programme, students engage in life skills sessions and dedicated college counselling. These sessions are designed to help them develop the necessary skills, confidence, and independence needed for a successful transition to university life.

Our goal is to ensure that every student feels supported, confident, and well-prepared as they navigate each new chapter of their academic journey.
