Dear friends,

Welcome to the website of Stonehill International School! We are a co-educational, secular, non-selective day and boarding school located in the lush Indian countryside north of Bangalore, near the international airport. We are fully accredited by CIS/NEASC and the Australian Boarding Schools Association, and serve students from age 3  through secondary school. Our new, state-of-the art campus covers 34 acres and includes extensive sports fields and facilities, a swimming pool, an equestrian centre, three boarding houses, two libraries, and a cafeteria. Governance and Leadership

Stonehill is a not-for-profit school and is proud to be an education initiative of Embassy Group. The school is governed by a five-member, appointed Governing Council consisting of prominent business leaders, former parents, and the owner’s representative. The Governing Council acts under the delegated authority of the Board of Stonehill Education Foundation. The Head of School and the Business Manager are also part of the Governing Council, and are supported by the Educational Leadership Team and Admin Team, respectively.

Dr. Beverly Sortland is the Head of School at Stonehill International School in Bangalore, India, where she has been since 2015. She has been a professional educator for over 25 years, including 20 years of experience in international schools. In addition to India, she has served schools in Cameroon, Zambia, Germany, France, England, and the U.S.

A particular area of research interest for her is the process expatriate teachers in international schools go through to successfully acculturate to their new host countries. She also has a strong interest in school finance.

Beverly has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, as well as teaching credentials, in music, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Management. She holds dual nationality, U.S./U.K., and her husband is French.

Catherine Charles has a Master’s Degree in Commerce and started her career as a Secretary to an Aviation Consulting Company in February 1994 while pursuing the Post Graduate Diploma in Business Studies in St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore.

Catherine was a member of the start-up team of one of the International Schools in Bangalore. She grew to the position of Business Manager with sincere efforts and dedication. She is a good administrator, highly competent in all of the skills necessary to successfully manage the non-academic team, which supports the academics.

Her skills include multi-tasking, financial reports, human resource, budget management, supervision of various departments and negotiating the best for the institution. She values loyalty and dedication and believes strongly in hard work and sincerity. The line that she loves is ‘Honesty is the best practice’. She always practices honesty and expects the same from everybody!

Catherine is married and has a son and a daughter. As a very homely person, she spends all her free time cooking, baking, stitching and embroidering for her family.

Vikram Shah was the President and Director of NetApp operations in India. Based in Bangalore, Vikram’s key focus is on organizational expansion. He has been instrumental in delivering business value to global functions in NetApp including software engineering and product management, IT, global support, strategic marketing, web and media services, global procurement, global network operations centre and collaborative sourcing.

Vikram’s illustrious management career exceeds three decades across several countries. He has held senior management positions with NetApp, Novell, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata InfoTech Ltd, Tech Mahindra and Tata-IBM.

A past Chairman of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce and an active member of the American Chamber of Commerce, Vikram is a well-respected member of the Indian IT world. He has been an active member of the Karnataka Chief Minister’s Task Force on Information Technology and a member of Board for IT Education Standards (BITES). Vikram is the honorary board member of start-up companies, mentoring entrepreneurs.

Vikram has an Electric and Electronics engineering degree from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani. In 1975, he acquired an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, USA.

Shaina Ganapathy heads Embassy’s Education and Corporate Outreach programs. A core member of the senior leadership team, Shaina has proved a valuable asset to the organisation for over 13 years. In her current role, Shaina is an integral part of the Governing Council at Stonehill International School and together with the members Governing Council, she is responsible for the welfare of the Stonehill community, establishment of policies, ensuring compliance , organisational architecture and growth, financial forecasting and other strategic functions of the school. She remains a member of the founding team at Stonehill International School since 2006.

Shaina also runs a successful CSR program at Embassy and has helped create a unique model of governance which has led to comprehensive development of 17 Government schools in Bengaluru City. Her expertise in strategy consulting and implementation of outreach programs has impacted over 7000 students.

Shaina believes in enabling access to education, health care and sanitisation for all. Her ethics and compassion are guiding factors in mentoring her team to achieve the organisation’s goals. Her programs are particularly successful owing to skillful engagements and sustainable partnerships between the Government and the private sectors.

Prior to her existing role, Shaina was a part of the strategy team guided by Mr. Jitendra Virwani, Chairman & Managing Director – The Embassy Group; and has actively worked on the design and development of the Hilton Residences project and Stonehill International school project. She has also been an active member of the Embassy Group’s Corporate Campaign program. In addition to this, she carries creditable experience in the hospitality sector with leading hospitality chains such as the ITC welcome group and the Intercontinental hotels.

Maureen Stewart is from the US and lives in Seattle, WA she has spent the last 20 years minus her 2.5 years here in Bangalore. She grew up as an Airforce Brat and moved around every two years to the next adventure with her family. She was fortunate enough to have lived and traveled to many places like Germany (where she was born), Indonesia, Turkey and Spain. Within the US, she spent most of her time in the Midwest and East coast living in New York State, Ohio and Oklahoma. She did her undergrad in Spanish and Linguistics at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and her Masters in Software Engineering at Seattle University when she finally found out what it was that she liked the most.

She is currently working at Amazon in Seattle as Principal PM of Prime International, specifically focused on countries outside of North America. . Prior to that, she has worked with great people in Deloitte & Touche and Boeing.  She has been “Having Fun, Working Hard and Making History” since 1999 at Amazon. She has been involved in a number of projects and roles throughout Amazon’s growth and enjoys d to using some of her tools attained over that time while in service on this body.

In addition to that, she has 3 beautiful girls Thalia, Stella and Macie and a great husband Jeff. In her spare time, she likes to cook, read, and gets involved with anything with textiles. She knits, crochets and even spins wool!

After ten years of experience in Italy, Stefano relocated to India, in the year 2000 as CEO and Executive Director for the Orlandi Group, a multibillion diversified Italian Industrial Conglomerate. In 2005, he set up his own firm in Bangalore which advises cross border projects.

With over twenty five years of experience in industrial, engineering, and applied technology companies, he has spent the past ten years structuring M&A and Joint Venture projects between European and Indian firms. He has a consolidated knowledge on emerging markets and areas such as Strategic Analysis, International Business, International Negotiations, Business Development and Project Management.

He is now the CEO and Director of Indever Corporate Consultants Pvt. Ltd. He is also on the Board of Directors of several Indian companies.

Stefano was born in Torino, Italy, and has a Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering. He is married and has two children.

For over 3 decades, she has been sector-agnostic in helping Makers forge lasting ties with Users and stakeholders, meet business goals and build robust brands by bringing wisdom and common sense to simplify and address knotty brand and business challenges.

She uses a 360 degree perspective which includes not just goals and contexts (organization, structures, competition) but also the motivational psychology that underpins individual and group behavior.

Today, in addition to her work as a brand strategist, Preeti is Advisor and Mentor to several startups, including a quiz-based learning company and a social impact startup targeting the educational needs of the girl child. She has a particular interest in mentoring women entrepreneurs. These avenues allow her to contribute her experience in leadership, organization and strategic communication to the startup ecosystem.

Previously, Preeti worked in Lintas (Lowe) Advertising- her last responsibility was as Associate Director leading and managing teams, customer relationships and product delivery. She has studied Mathematical Statistics in Delhi University, followed by a PGDM in IIM Calcutta where she specialized in marketing and consumer behavior- and finally honed her brand strategy skills at Columbia Business School.

Preeti has eclectic interests – travel, reading, fitness, philosophy, food and movies to name a few— and sees herself as a perpetual learner.

She and her husband have 2 boys- an 18 year old who has just started reading PPE at Oxford University as well as a 14 year old 9th grader.

Sitara Uthappa is the Project Manager – GC, at Stonehill International School in Bangalore, India, since September 2015.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce, specializing in Advertising & Marketing and certified honors in Human Resource Management from Bangalore University. She has previously worked for multinational companies such as HP, Dell, ANZ and American Express with experience ranging across Finance, Credit and Commercial Banking operations.

Her skills include credit analysis, data reporting, finance operations, quality assurance, customer support and mentoring. She enjoys accepting challenges, exploring opportunities and is driven by constant learning. She has a range of interests that include nature walks, adventure, travelling, arts and music. Being an avid dog lover she was driven by her passion that had led to an entrepreneurial start up as a professional pet groomer providing specialized services and is a certified pet trainer.

Accreditation and Authorisation

Stonehill is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), and the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA). The school will be undergoing a re-accreditation visit in 2018. For the curriculum, Stonehill is an authorised, three-programme International Baccalaureate (IB) school, with re-authorisations in 2016 and 2017 either completed or currently underway for the Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma programmes.

Stonehill Faculty: A global faculty for a multinational student body

The importance of teachers in any academic programme cannot be overemphasized, especially in the IB methodology. All of our faculty members are IB trained and many have significant previous experience in IB schools around the world.

We believe that a diverse faculty goes a long way in preparing students to adapt to a rapidly globalizing world. Most of our teachers have previously lived and worked in many countries and cultures.
